Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus, commonly known as the "saffron crocus". The vivid crimson stigma and styles, called threads, are collected and dried for use mainly as a seasoning and colouring agent in food. Portugal is obviously not known for it like Spain and Iran but thankfully we can grow it very good here making a short supply chain possible.
The harvest is around October. We handpick the flowers, seperate the threads and dry them immediately. 
 
It's a very small production hoping to support Telma from Sitio dos Alecrins who lost her Shiitake greenhouses during the huricane "Leslie" in 2018

O açafrão é uma especiaria derivada da flor do Crocus sativus, vulgarmente conhecida como o "crocodilo açafrão". O estigma e estilos carmesim vivos, chamados fios, são recolhidos e secos para utilização principalmente como tempero e corante em alimentos. Portugal não é obviamente conhecido por ele como Espanha e Irão, mas felizmente podemos cultivá-lo muito bem aqui, tornando possível uma curta cadeia de abastecimento.
A colheita é por volta de Outubro. Colhemos manualmente as flores, separamos os fios e secamo-los imediatamente. 
 
É uma produção muito pequena na esperança de apoiar a Telma do Sitio dos Alecrins que perdeu as suas estufas Shiitake durante o furacão "Leslie" em 2018.

Saffraan is een specerij afkomstig van de bloem van de Crocus sativus, algemeen bekend als de "saffraankrokus". De levendige karmozijnrode stigma en stijlen, die draden worden genoemd, worden verzameld en gedroogd en voornamelijk gebruikt als smaak- en kleurstof in voedsel.
Portugal staat er natuurlijk niet om bekend zoals Spanje en Iran, maar gelukkig kunnen we het hier heel goed kweken waardoor een korte aanvoerketen mogelijk is.
 
De oogst is rond oktober. We plukken de bloemen met de hand, scheiden de draden en drogen ze meteen. 
 
Het is een zeer kleine productie in de hoop Telma van "Sitio dos Alecrins" te steunen nadat ze haar Shiitake kwekerij verloor tijdens de orkaan "Leslie" in 2018.
